When you can’t be at our practice, our tailored hygiene recommendations support healthy care at home

our tailored hygiene recommendations support healthy care at home

The theme song from his favorite series, Cheers, represents more than feel-good, cherished memories for our dentist Dr. Dan Hwang. That theme, “where everybody knows your name,” also embodies our approach to dental care at Creo Dentistry, and our team in Marysville, Washington, takes you and your family’s experience at our practice very seriously. We appreciate that if you are not over the moon with the level of service we provide and the atmosphere we have created, you will not return to us for the routine visits fundamental to your oral health and overall health.

Dental visits for a lifetime of smiles

During regular checkups, home hygiene guidance is also provided, and a full oral exam, cancer screening, and professional cleaning. Due to our approach to getting to know patients beyond the state of their teeth and gums, we are in the best possible position to tailor recommendations for home care to each individual’s unique needs, specific preferences, and habits, and behaviors.

We are significantly invested in each of our patients, just as they have invested in us as their family’s “dental home.” No stone is left unturned when it comes to accounting for each patient as a “whole person.” There are so many factors that can impact the ability to restore or maintain a healthy mouth, from comorbidities or overall health status, access to nutritious foods, budget, family history, or genetic predispositions. Since we truly know and respect our patients, we have insights into all facets of their lives and factors. So, we can identify challenges that stand in the way of their best smiles and opportunities to enhance the oral health that is so connected to a good quality of life.

From our “home” to yours

While the recommendations that we provide are specific to you, there are some general “tips to live by” that all patients can benefit from:

  • Brush for at least two minutes, two times each day.
  • Floss for at least two minutes daily. Flossing catches food particles that the toothbrush can miss (up to one-third of the surface of each tooth!).
  • Brush your tongue, gums, and the roof of your mouth. These soft tissues harbor harmful bacteria and promote the development of harmful plaque.
  • Use a light touch. You don’t have to brush and floss aggressively to do the job. In fact, aggressive brushing and flossing can damage delicate tissues.

Additionally, we may recommend products specific to your needs and routine. For instance, various “standard” and electric toothbrushes and several different types of floss, picks, and interdental brushes make cleaning crowded or hard-to-reach areas more accessible. You may incorporate antibacterial rinses and fluoride toothpaste into your daily habit. Our preventive services also go hand in hand with home hygiene. Chronic bruxism (teeth grinding) can make your teeth vulnerable to decay and sensitivity. Dr. Hwang may customize an oral appliance, or nightguard, to be worn at night when many patients unknowingly grind their teeth and clench their jaws. The nightguard protects the teeth and dental restorations from damage. These professional, preventive medical devices accompany great oral hygiene routines to promote healthy smiles and overall health.

That is just the tip of the iceberg regarding risk factors and recommendations from your trusted, extended “family” at Creo Dentistry. For truly tailored toothy tips, from nutrition to smoking cessation, schedule your visit with Dr. Hwang. Call (360) 502-7217 today.
